UWC Alumna Receives Recognition on World Stage

A UW Collegiate graduate was recently awarded two bronze medals at the 2021 Global Music Awards. Rhonda Head (Collegiate Class of 1987) earned the honours for two Cree language songs, Kisahkihitin I Love You (Contemporary Classical Category) and 500 Years (Protest Songs).

BIO: Rhonda Head is from the Opaskwayak Cree Nation in northern Manitoba, Canada. Rhonda has received 14 nominations in total and won eight International music awards since she began her music career as a Mezzo-Soprano in 2010. She writes her lyrics in her Indigenous Cree Language and composes her melodies based off the landscape in her home reserve of Opaskwayak Cree Nation.
