Airport Pick-Up

Making our students feel welcome is important to us, which is why new students are met at the Winnipeg International Airport by a school representative and/or your host family. New international students are advised to arrive 5 days before school starts. If you are residing in UWinnipeg Housing or have made private accommodations, please email to arrange airport pick-up.

Arrival checklist

You will likely enter Canada through either Toronto or Vancouver, and take a connecting flight to Winnipeg. Airports in Vancouver and Toronto have a Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE) information desk set up from mid-August through early September, between 12:00 p.m. and midnight. If you have any questions, please approach an Officer. They will be located in the customs or immigration areas, or near the main airport information desk.

Be prepared to produce the following documents upon arrival in Canada:

  • Letter of Permission from the Canadian Consulate or High Commissioner in your country
  • Passport, with Canadian entry (visitor visa or TRV) where required
  • Original or copy of Letter of Acceptance from The University of Winnipeg Collegiate
  • Evidence of Financial Support
  • List of any items which you are sending separately, or which are not cleared personally at the time of your arrival; ask for the list to be stamped by immigration, if possible.
  • Letters of reference, or any other documents recommended by the Canadian High Commission in your country
  • Carry these items and all other valuable papers, cash, credit cards and traveler’s cheques on your person rather than in hand or checked baggage.
